We have a fully equipped DT room in the Prep School, allowing children to experiment with materials and tools to design and create many varied projects while learning how to use the tools safely and effectively.

Children are encouraged to be inventive and experiment with their ideas, using cams, pulleys, electricity, hinge mechanisms and forces to create models of all kinds, ranging from biscuit boxes (and the biscuits themselves), to houses with electric lights and control sensors. Their imagination is given full rein in their design work, and they have the opportunity to use computer equipment to aid this.

There are close links with the Art Department, and often a project involves both lessons, for example, a self portrait is produced during art, and a frame to hold the masterpiece once completed, is made during the D & T lesson.

From year 2, children have a three lesson creative session each week at the Prep School, spending half in the D&T room and half in the Art room. Sometimes the older year groups will visit the senior school D & T departments and see what lies in store for them in future years.
