Music plays an important role in the life of the Prep School. We aim to provide an exciting musical education to all children, catering for all abilities and styles of learning.
Our classroom music curriculum fosters a love and appreciation of music. Children in the Prep School participate in class group instrumental schemes including Strings, Wind and Brass at Year 3, Classical Guitar (Year 4) Percussion (Year 5) and Music Technology (Year 6). Pupils study all genres of music, and musical literacy is taught using Kodaly principles.
Throughout the year every child in the school will perform at their respective year level concert, Christmas Carol concert, Easter Passion Service and Annual Spring Concert as well as having opportunities to perform in assemblies and public events.
Our team of professional visiting music teachers offer individual lessons on a wide range of instruments including piano, voice, string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments to pupils from Year 3.
The school runs a varied co-curricular music programme which includes 3 string groups, 4 choirs, wind band, brass ensemble, classical guitar group and 2 percussion groups. These ensembles cater for all musicians, from beginners upwards. School ensembles regularly participate in community events and Music Festivals and the school runs an annual school House Music competition.
Strong links with the Senior School offers opportunities to our pupils including combined School ensembles.
