U10 ROUNDERS - 2 MAY 2012
The U10 girls played their first rounders match of the season at Reigate St. Mary’s. The girls won the toss and elected to field first. A great display of fielding ensued enabling them to keep their score down to just 1½unders. When batting, Charlotte Mercer and Zara Russell connected with some fantastic shots, leaving the score at the end of the first innings at 11 - 1 ½ Reigate came out stronger in the second innings and managed to up their score to 4. With a win already in the bag Caterham’s concentration dropped a little and their second half score reduced to only 6 rounders. A pleasing start to the season and a good lesson on areas for improvement.
Player of the Match - Charlotte Mercer. Well done.
COLTS CRICKET - 2 MAY 2012
The Colts won the toss and elected to field in their match against Reigate St Mary’s. Reigate got off to a brisk start but then the wickets started to steadily fall. Matthew Wray topped the bowling by claiming three wickets in a spell of two overs. Reigate finished their 20 over innings on 52 for 9.
Caterham started their innings slowly and lost a couple of wickets early on. Midway through it looked a tall order for Caterham to achieve the 52 runs needed for victory. However, through a mixture of extras and good running between the wickets the match became finely balanced with Caterham needing 8 off the final over. 4 runs were scored off the first three balls, then a dot ball, then another run, then an extra. With the final ball to come we needed one to draw and two to win! All eyes were on Shayaan who had carried his bat admirably through the whole innings... another dot ball. Reigate had scraped through an exciting match for a one run victory.
Man of the match: Matthew Wray for his 3 wicket haul
U11 ROUNDERS - 2 MAY 2012
A break in the weather allowed the U11s to play their first Rounders match on Wednesday. Despite little opportunity to practise, the girls fielded tightly for the majority of the match making some good decisions from all areas of the pitch. Reigate had some fine batters and accumulated a score of 10 rounders by the end of their 2 innings. Despite Caterham not hitting the ball to the best of their ability they still managed to win the game by the narrowest of margins. Well done girls.
Final score: Reigate St Mary’s 10 – 10 ½ Caterham
Player of the Match was awarded to Roberta Lack – Congratulations.
U11 IAPS Rounders Match v Burgess Hill - 08 MAY 2012
The girls started the game with style, batting efficiently and forcing the opposition in to fielding errors. Rounders accumulated quickly and Caterham’s total was increased dramatically by the power and placement of Zara Russell’s batting as she continually scored full rounders with almost every ball she faced – a great effort. The team were eventually all out in their 1st innings for a magnificent total of 21 rounders. Burgess Hill stepped up to bat but were severely restricted in their ability to score by some excellent fielding and quick decision making from the Caterham girls. They communicated well and backed each other up effectively in all areas of the pitch. Burgess Hill only managed to score 1½ rounders all out and were immediately put back in to bat. Their second innings was a little more successful, scoring 11½ but this was not enough to avoid defeat. Caterham were the deserved winners on the day, demonstrating particularly impressive fielding skills. Without having to bat a second time Caterham won the game by 21 rounders to 13. Congratulations to all those who took part.
